In 1954, the great photographer Henri Cartier-Bresson was given permission to photograph life in Moscow, the first foreigner permitted since 1917. Accompanied by his wife and an interpreter, he wandered the streets and photographed the factories, the museums, the ballet, and the sporting events of Moscow, capturing everyday Russian life. To his surprise, he was not censored and was allowed to take all of his photos back to Paris where he wrote and published this book in 1955. This out-of-print and hard-to-find book is a 9” x 11” hardcover, with newest a frayed dust jacket. A plastic cover protects what is left of the dust jacket and the actual cloth book cover. I would say that because of the condition of the dust jacket and the quality of the paper the photos are printed on, the book's condition is good. However, other than faint yellowing along the edges of the pages, the more than 150 photographs inside are excellently reproduced, most, like this book, are rarely seen to this day. A must-have for any photo buff, this is life in Moscow as seen by one of the greatest photographers of all time.
