Rare Antique Hand Coloured Engraving newest of Three Australian Natives, Circa 1840, Italian Bookplate, Tasmanian Aborigines.

newest Incredibly rare to find an original engraved bookplate from the early 19th century depicting Australian Aborigines. It is likely from the images that these were natives of Tasmania, or Van Dieman's Land as it was then known as their appearance differs markedly from the tribes on the mainland. The caption at the bottom of the plate is in Italian and translates to “Embellished Portrait of Three Natives” the plate has suffered spotting damage but is otherwise sound and the colours are still bright. Comes set into a matt board 245mm x 300mm ready for framing.
