French Puffed Cross, Heart, Anchor Medals

From France comes these classic Victorian style puffed heart cross, heart, anchor medals crafted in French silver.

In Christian iconography, the cross is a symbol of faith; the heart, a symbol of love; the anchor, a symbol of hope. The cross, the principal symbol of the Christian religion, recalling the Crucifixion of Jesus Christ and the redeeming benefits of his Passion and death. The cross is thus a sign both of Christ himself and of the faith of Christians. The flaming heart is a symbol of the Sacred Heart of Jesus burning with love of us. The anchor is a symbol of hope in future existence because the anchor was regarded in ancient times as a symbol of safety. For Christians, Christ is the unfailing hope of all who believe in Him

The fascinating reliquary or receptacle is designed to hold tiny sacred stuff such as pebble from Biblical sites in the Holy Land, a tiny fragment of hair, clothing, and even bone of those deemed to be saints and martyrs by the Christian church. The sealed unopenable reliquary has three tiny holes at each side and is empty, waiting to hold something worthy.

The cross, heart and anchor are 5/8" tall respectively and the reliquary is about 5/8" wide x 7/8" tall. All are imbued by Mother Nature with patina.
