Product code: Walt newest Disney Productions 50 Years Mickey Mouse Medallic Art Bronze Coin

An Original Walt Disney Productions Bronze Medal/Coin from 1973. It's arguably one of the most beautiful Disney commemoratives. The front of it was sculpted by Disney Legend and original WED Imagineer, Blaine Gibson. Having sculpted the face of the Walt Disney Commemorative Medal in 1968, this became the first commemorative medal to feature a sculpted and raised image of Mickey Mouse in bronze; a true, but often uncredited, Blaine Gibson limited edition bronze medal.

Those following the history of Disney theme parks will recognize Gibson's work in sculpting the early likeness of President Abraham Lincoln for the 1964 New York World's Fair; as well as for sculpting the likeness of 41 Presidents of the United newest States for the "Hall of Presidents" at Walt Disney World. His contributions at Disneyland included not only "Great Moments with Mr. Lincoln", but include "Pirates of the Caribbean", "Haunted Mansion" and "Walt Disney's Enchanted Tiki Room.".

The reverse reads: Commemorating 50 Happy Years - "My greatest reward is I have been able to build this wonderful organization. And also to have the public appreciate and accept what we've done all these years. That is a great reward." - Walt Disney. These coins were given to permanent Cast Members to celebrate 50 Years of Walt Disney Productions (1923-1973.)

It measures 1.5" in diameter and comes in a plastic zip-bag with a free "copy" of the coin wrapper that it would've come in at the time it was given out to the cast member. The wrapper reads "We thought you might like to have this souvenir as a small token of our thanks for making this, the 50th anniversary year of Walt Disney Productions, the most successful in our history", it was signed by Disney executives Donn Tatum and Card Walker.

This coin/medallion has not been cleaned and is in original aged condition.

This one is unusual in that the cast member who owned it turned it into a wearable piece of jewelry. It is in a gold toned setting and includes a heavy gold toned chain that measures 25" in length. The coin appears to be in great condition.
