Orsini, Italian humanist, antiquarian and librarian was in charge of the Farnese Library in the Farnese Palace which is today the seat of the French Embassy in Italy. He was also in charge of the palace art collections. He has on his own created a large collection of works of art and antiques. Above all, he assembled a huge library, which he later bequeathed to the Vatican library. We can consult on this subject the excellent work newest of Pierre de Nolhac: La bibliothèque de Flavio Orsini (The Library of Flavio Orsini), contribution to the history of Italian collections and to the study of the Renaissance.
Antonio Lafrery, a French engraver, moved to Rome in 1540 to trade in maps and prints, he later became a publisher and always played a role in the execution of the plates. He is best known for having published in Rome in 1570 the first collection of printed maps, which over time became "Atlas Lafrery".
Here we have two important figures in the history of art during the Renaissance.
We provide high-quality pictures so you can notice each detail of the prints. Please watch them carefully so you won't miss any potential imperfection.
