This is a beautiful blue sponged stoneware Mixing Bowl. It has been decorated with dark blue sponging. It has a chip that can be seen in the last photograph. Spongeware is a style of decoration. Forms were washed in a clear alkaline solution. Decorations were then applied with sponges (and like materials) saturated with paint.

Antique and vintage stoneware items are not new and may show their age imperfections such as wear, pitting in the pottery, hairline newest fractures, chips/nicks and some crazing.
