We have a loose gem quality 0.85ct Oval Purple Blue Tanzanite. The Tanzanite measure 6.18 x 4.18mm, has excellent clarity and AAA color, pretty sure I saw red flashes while photographing this stone.
The Mineral Zoisite was first found in the Sau-Alp Mountains in Austria, in 1805 which is why newest it first initially called Saualpite but was later changed to Zoisite after the collector, however, Tanzanite was introduced by the Jewelry Giant Tiffany & Co. in New York.
Now a single source gemstone Tanzanite is becoming more rare and valuable...it's been increasingly difficult to find them in this color.
The birthstone for December, it's 6.5-7 on the Mohs' hardness scale which makes them friendly to (gently) work with for your crafting needs.
