There are all kinds of "fenders" for all kinds of boats, whether they be canal boats, yachts, tugs or river barges, there is a need for a fender to prevent damage to hulls and other boats and even pontoons and wharves.

Handmade nautical boat Fenders can be made of all most any material, all sorts of rope, rubber tyres, carpet and canvas plus lots more, anything to prevent scraping and damage.

Handmaking a nautical boat fender can be quite an art form and great pride taken in the finished product, to the other end of the scale, where an old rubber tyre is attached to the side or bow.

This Nautical handmade beauty is a side fender for smaller boats made from Hempex, a natural hemp look - a - like rope.

A practical fender or just a nice effective nautical decor item for around the house, porch/verandah

The result is a very attractive evenly knotted side fender that is virtually indestructable and will last almost forever when used as a decor item.

It can be used as a fender on small boats, and being made of manmade fibre it will last almost forever.

Synthetic rope like polyester or nylon is longer lasting when used as a fender.

Its rare to see them on small craft these days as the trend has been to plastic blow up things.
