Vintage RARE Tashiro Shoten Ceramic Grapes and Leaves Oval Canisters Transferware Nesting newest Lidded Vanity Boxes Made in Japan Set of 3

Mid Century Oval Nesting Vanity Box or Canister Set...Rare to find a complete set!

Three oval canisters with fluted sides nest perfectly, with lids on, inside each other. Decorated with a transferware pattern of wine red grapes and leaves against a blue crosshatch background.

Largest measures 8" long, 5 3/4" wide, 4 1/8" tall with lid on
Medium- 6 5/8" long, 4 1/4" wide, 3" newest tall with lid on
Smallest- 5 1/4" long, 3" wide, 2" tall with lid on

Excellent vintage condition. No cracks or repairs. Light crazing. Smallest lid has a 1/4" chip on side of handle (see photos) blends in a bit with fluted sides. Largest lid has a 1/8" chip on interior rim, largest container has a similar chip on inside edge (see photos) Neither can be seen when lid is closed.

Base is marked with the Tashiro Shoten mark of an elephant head and the words 'Made in Japan'

The Tashiro Shoten company began manufacturing ceramic some time before WWII and closed in 1954. Items made between 1945 and 1951 would have read 'Made in Occupied Japan'. These boxes were most likely made between 1951 and 1954, or possibly (but less likely) before WWII.
