These plates are from the first edition of the Circus Clown pattern, which was introduced 1965 with a vibrant green border. Later editions have a different border color. These newest are both in great condition - no chips, no cracks, no crazing.
Stangl pottery is made of a classic red-brown clay, then glazed with high-gloss. The illustrations are incised, then hand-painted - no two Stangls are ever alike! One of the two plates is initialed on bottom.
