OVERVIEW:
Original drawing, design work, and hand embroidery created in my home studio.
The word "Chingona" (Spanish for badass female) is depicted in negative space, within the shadow of a self-assured little saguaro.
INSPIRATION:
Latinas make up the largest group of women workers in the United States and experience the largest wage gap of any major ethnic group*.
This piece recognizes all the Chingonas whose newest impact inside and outside the workplace is far greater than the recognition they receive.
DETAILS:
- 4" wooden embroidery hoop
- Cactus: Double strand thread in two shades of neon green
- Lettering: Triple strand black thread
- Back of hoop finished with protective felt covering and "SC 22" hand-stitched artist signature
