Elmira Shelton was Edgar Allan Poe's childhood sweetheart.
Signed by the artist in lower right corner. Dated 1974. Writing on the back states this painting hung newest in the Valentine Museum from Spring thru Fall of 1974.

Label on the back reads,

Built in 1844
Ten days before his death in Baltimore, Edgar Allan Poe visited his friend,
Elmira Shelton, who was a widow and lived in this house.

Substantial wood frame has a gold wash finish and is 16 1/2 X 19 1/2”. Frame shows some age related wear.
