General Dean's Story as told to William Worden
by Major General William F. Dean-
Published by Viking Press, 1954. I believe it to be
a first edition. In very good condition.
Note: this book is autographed to a friend by General
Dean on the flyleaf.
When the town of Taejon was overrun during the
Korean War General William Dean (commanding
the 24th Infantry Division) remained behind
successfully organizing his retreating forces.
Because of his courageous leadership and
complete disregard for his own personal safety he
was awarded the Congressional Medal Of Honor
by President Truman while still missing in newest action
in Korea.
This is his story...a story of selfless actions in the
face of the enemy,.. of being a fugitive in Korea
and of capture and imprisonment by the
Communists for 3 years. In the words of William
Worden: "He didn't think he was a great commander
or a true hero. I think he was."
