1930s Vintage Art Deco Morpho Butterfly Wing Powder Chrome Compact for SS Atlantis Cruise Liner newest Ship

A lovely old powder compact with iridescent blue Morpho butterfly wings set inside the lid, under a reverse painted clear celluloid cover. Would have been a souvenir from a cruise on the Royal Mail Steam Packet company Steamship, the SS Atlantis (previously the SS Andes).

The Atlantis was the largest vessel in the world at the time devoted solely to cruising, in 1939 she was refitted as a hospital ship during World War Two.

This compact is in a very good antique condition, although the mirror has some bubbling to the chrome finish, and there is some tarnish around the clasp - the little powder puff is also missing.

Measuring approximately 1 3/4" square and 5/16" thick. A newest lovely piece of cruising memorabilia.
