Tom Brown's School Days by Thomas Hughes. Published by The Walter Scott Publishing Co, London around 1900 (n.d.). Dark blue cloth cover with gray undertones. Gilt title block on the cover with art nouveau style floral illustration. Spine is darkened. Gilt on the spine is darkened. Light discoloration and wear to the upper and lower spine. Back cover is blue and very good. Eps are black with prize sticker covering left eps. Black and white illustration on frontispiece. Book leans forward slightly. Interior pages are crisp, white and well intact with mild tanning along the page edges. Interior pages have gilt edging that is darkened on three sides. Rear eps are black and clean. 343 pages + advertising, 8 1/8 x 6"

Orange cloth cover is faded with dark black spot (center-right). Cover corners bend downward. Gilt on the spine is faded. Discoloration on the upper and lower spine. Back cover is orange with large soil spot (center). Eps has printed advertising and ex-library stamps. Title page has heavy tanning and a foxing spot on the lower edge (center). Penned marking and soil spot on page 1. Interior pages are soft and intact with heavy tanning throughout. Outer edges of interior pages appear dirty. Occasional crease on upper right corner page and light foxing spot throughout. Advertising on rear eps. 313 pages, 7 1/2 x 5"

Silver title block on the spine is rubbed. Cloth on spine is faded / discolored to a rust color. Wear and breakage of cloth on upper and lower spine. Back cover is orange and good. Eps are clean with heavy tanning. Title page has heavy tanning. Interior pages are soft with heavy tanning throughout. Outer edge of pages appear soiled. Chip in upper right corner from page 115-118 and page 347. Foxing and light soiling along the lower edge of interior pages throughout.
