Tam O'Shanter “tweed-style” pattern is hand-painted on this large round platter. It has a Metlox glaze pigment of green and rust on a high gloss white background. This is a rare, large 14” Chop newest Plate. By Vernonware from Manhattan Beach, California in 1950's. Maker's mark on back. Tam O'Shanter is the pattern, there were several other Metlox Vernonware patterns focusing on greens, yellows, orange/red colors with the high gloss white background. Metlox is the term used to describe the process of combining metal and oxide to the glaze pigments. Vernonware Metlox -Tam O'Shanter: 1949 -1958, discontinued. Beautiful condition: no chips, cracks or scratches. Excellent shine and presentation piece for collectors. Unique.
