This discovery of Stibnite included Selenite in China happened recently in 2018. This combo hasn't been seen before this, so it's pretty cool to see. It's a little hard to photograph the beauty they show in person, but they have a nice sheen and sweet tinging sound. The linear stibnite inclusions are the grey lines that run vertical up the crystal. Fascinating. I love both of these minerals so to see them together is exciting for me.
A bit about stibnite. Stibnite is sometimes called antimonite as it's an important source for antimony. Antimony (Sb, stibium) is a semimetallic element that belongs to the vanadium family (Group VA) of the periodic table and shares certain chemical and physical properties with lead, arsenic, and bismuth. In nature, antimony is associated with sulfur as stibnite and occurs in ores with arsenic.
A bit about selenite. Selenite is a specific variety of the newest mineral gypsum named after the Ancient Greek goddess of the moon, Selene. The name 'selenite' is mostly synonymous with gypsum but has been used historically to describe the transparent variety, as opposed to satin spar gypsum for the fibrous variety and alabaster for the fine-grained massive form.
