Little Josey or Try and Succeed was written by “Aunt Friendly” aka Sarah Schoomaker Baker. Though it's a religious morality tale for children, it has newest one of the prettiest book covers I've ever seen, with a gilt embossed title and an ombré floral design!
In exquisite writing, the inscription in front reads in part “To Mamie Fisher for repeating half of Childrens Catechism” and is dated Christmas 1899.
Published by Frederick Warne and dating from the late 1800s, the book is in good vintage condition, commensurate with age. Spine is lightly worn with a little rippling, and there is what appears to be an inky fingerprint on the back. Interior is mildly foxed and browned due to age. Binding has a mild crack, but is still holding.
Book is illustrated and has no missing pages.
