Stunning framed English antique engraving of a Grecian woman. This beautiful engraving features a woman in profile wearing a laurel wreath and holding a large book. It is framed in a gorgeous oval gold frame and is "matted" by glass that has been reverse painted in black to resemble a mat.
The engraving was made by English engraver J. Ryder, who worked in the late 1700s and early 1800s. According to the label on the back, it was framed by Alfred Scotney of St. Mary's Hill in Stamford England. I believe that this piece is from the late 1700s or early 1800s based upon this information.
The framed engraving measures 15 inches tall, 13 inches wide and 1 inch deep, at the outer edges of the frame. The the frame has two small chips on the right and top, as shown in the 7th & 8th photos. The black paint that makes up the "mat" is worn away in places, as is consistent with it's age. In some photos, the glare on the glass may make it appear that the black area is more damaged than it is - please examine all the photos newest for a full understanding.
