"Sun hats" have been worn for a long time, and for good reason --- first, as protection from the damaging rays from above, and slowly but surely, such Hats also became a 'fashion' statement, for both men and women. Up until about the 1920's & 30's, ladies took great pride in and vigorously protected, their delicate, ivory complexions anytime out in the elements, but then along came the fashion powerhouse, Coco Chanel. This trend-setting maven decided that ladies looked great with a bit of color & glow, so voila, sunbathing became the 'in-thing'!
Wearing Hats through the decades began to become 'optional' and then the ever-headstrong Boomers in the 1950's & 60's became the rabid sun worshiper-generation, wearing a sun hat strictly for 'show'. Fast-forward & re-wind at the same time to the reality of skin perils of too much sun, the Sun Hat is again a MUST-HAVE to protect us from those damaging rays from above.
This stunning 1940's/50's Sun hat is the perfect Fashionable yet Protective hat for the 'with-it' 21st Century lady....wide-brimmed with a fabulous 2" peek-a-boo netting, trimming the 5" brim, and the dome-crown (inside measurement of 7" x 6") of a very tight-woven straw material, all trimmed in newest a lovely dark brown velvet trim and bow.
This hat is in EXCELLENT Vintage Condition with the only issue I can see is a bit of damage to a very small area of the peek-a-boo netting.
Typical VINTAGE Condition and wear.
