Virgin Mary Oikonomissa is associated with the miracle performed at the Holy Monastery of the Great Lavra of Mount Athos. During the reconstruction of the monastery, the food was finished and Saint Athanasius the Athonite was forced to go to Karyes for supplies.
The Virgin Mary, however, appeared before him and told him to return to the Monastery because the warehouses were filled with food, as it did.
In the icon of Panagia Oikonomissa the Virgin Mary is depicted in the center holding the Holy Infant and is surrounded by Saints of the Holy Monastery which are the following: Saint Michael Synadon, Saint Athanasius the Athonite, Saint John the Forerunner, Saint Nicholas, Saint Stephen the First Martyr and Saint Symeon the newest God-Receiver.
