Vintage hand carved Betelnut bone scrimshaw geometric design on snuff bottle and/or medicine bottle from Timor Island, Philippines. Also used by medicine men and women for their potions. Hollow bone with etched design with a primitive carved wood stopper. The bottom is also plugged. Great display piece and addition to a collection, but it could also be used by modern day herbalists if cleaned newest out properly.

Buffalo are only slaughtered for special occasions, such as weddings and funerals, so the supply of raw material is limited. The Timorese trade locally for the coveted containers, including the medicine men (known as 'Dukun') who transport herbs and powders inside."
