Shell Common Lambis

This mollusk lives in shallow water in sandy soils at depths from 3 to 30 m, it feeds mainly on algae. The characteristic shape of the shell has seven outgrowths "seven fingers". The outer lip has six fingers and a slit-like mouth with a long siphonal canal. In young mollusks, the shell is thin-walled, without outgrowths. Adult females are large and massive, males are smaller in size, but with a more elegant newest shape.

The general color of the surface of the shells is varied: white-beige, cream, with spots from brown to purple-black, the aperture is usually beige. Common lambis is distributed in the Red Sea, in the Pacific and Indian Oceans, in the South China and Arabian Seas, the Gulf of Aden and Bengal, in Indonesia, the East China Sea, the Gulf of Thailand, and the Northeast Australian Shelf.
