Autumn leaves mesmerize me. I love the endless variation in brilliant color and pattern, as I stare down at them on my autumn walks.
This is a limited edition print; I only printed 5 of this edition on archival etching paper. Images 1-4 are the same print; images 5-7 are different. Print area is about 6 x 4.5 inches, paper measures 12 x 9.5 inches.
The etching technique uses a "soft ground," where newest I used actual leaves pressed into soft ground material (a mixture of asphaltum, rosin, beeswax, and tallow) on the zinc metal plate. The acid bath burned the delicate details of each leaf into the plate. Different colors of ink are applied to the plate, as the plate is prepared for printing. Each print is inked up in this manner before printing on my etching press.
Each print is signed by the artist, numbered and is an original and unique piece of art. Because of the handmade nature of an etched print, slight differences are inevitable.
