Product code: Newest Personal Diary Rock Brook Camp For Girls Brevard NC 1929 Frances Porcher Vintage

Wonderful vintage and one-of-a-kind 1929 Diary of Girl we are 99.9999% certain is from girl named Frances Porcher (1915-1980) starting June 1929 at Rockbrook Camp for Girls, Brevard, NC (year is not noted but calendar days line up plus we know she attending was attending RockBrook in 1929). Diary is 40+ pgs. with entries until end of year. fyi Rock Brook was spelled as one word back then and the camp is still going strong today 100+ years since its opening. She makes entries almost every day. In August she departed the camp and the entries return to her life in Atlanta and LaGrange, GA. We have not transcribed nor read every entry so still lots to discover. She drops A LOT of names throughout. She also appears to shop a lot. Anyway, board cover diary with string spine tie measures approx. 7 x 4.75" and condition is very good. A great insight into Rockbrook and life of a teenage girl in the south 1920s. We have other Frances Porcher and Rockbrook items please check them out.

Frances Porcher (1915-1980) was daughter of Arthur Porcher (1889-1939) and Katherine Callaway (of GA Callaways) and great granddaughter of William Henry Peck (1830-1892) the famous writer, publisher and professor. She married Frank Bowles (1900-1975) in 1939 and the couple moved to NYC where Frank was Director of Admissions of Columbia University. He resigned in 1948 to become Director of the College Entrance Examination Board where he revamped testing for law schools and spearheaded the development of what is now known as the LSAT. In 1950 they were living in Demarest, NJ with two children. This ships fast and FREE signature required. Contact us any questions and please follow our store as we bring the rare and unique.
