The islands of Venice are automobile-free, but trains transport passengers across the lagoon to Venice's picturesque Santa Lucia train station on the Grand Canal. Santa Lucia station, built throughout newest the 1940s and 1950s, required the demolition of its namesake, the Church of Santa Lucia.
