Simply run a bath of cool water and about a tsp. of dishwashing liquid (I prefer Dawn). Allow the hat to soak for about 30 minutes gently squeezing the soap through the fibers to ensure complete saturation. After 30 minutes, gently squeeze the soapy water through the hat and dump the soapy water. Refill with fresh water 2 times,(more, is necessary. Water should run clear) squeezing the water out of the hat following each water change. Do not wring the hat to remove water. This may affect the shape. Following the final removal of water, wrap the hat in a large dry towel and roll, pressing the excess water from the hat to the towel. Remove the hat and shape. The fibers are very flexible at this point but retain memory, so shaping is quite easy. If you have a bowl-shaped resembling the crown of the hat, use it as a model for the drying.
