Description:
Vintage large Sterling Silver heart pendant locket. The front and back of the locket is plain with no design. This type of item was very popular during the Edwardian era. This locket is hallmarked W&H on one of the inner wells.

The hinge on this large silver locket is on the left and the locket opens on the right. Inside there are two wells for photos and each has a frame intact. The locket opens easily and closes with a snap.

The large heart locket hangs on a heavy 22” long sterling silver curb link chain that has a spring ring clasp. The clasp opens and closes as intended.

This hallmark is for the Wightman & Hough Company that was established in 1856 in Providence, Rhode Island. They manufactured gold-filled, rolled gold, and sterling silver jewelry. Each piece was hallmarked with a heart containing the initials “W&H”. They were known for lockets, medallions, and seals. They were in business through the Art Deco era.

Chain: 22” long
Pendant: 1 1/4'' wide x 1 1/2" (with bail) high and 1 3/8" without the bail.

14.4 grams (necklace with newest chain)

Condition:
In nice vintage condition. Some light use marks and patina on the pendant - slight depression on the back that is visible upon close inspection - see photos for details.

Marked:
Pendant: W&H CO STERLING inside on one of the wells. The hallmark is on a raised circle with the company letters inside a heart shape.
Chain: Marked STERLING on the spring ring clasp.
