Antique English Wood Suitcase with Leather newest Handle and Faux Leather Fabric Covering, Shabby Suitcase

This rather shabby but gorgeous old suitcase is made from wood which has been covered with 'tarred' fabric to make it look like leather. It measures 15 3/4 inches (40 cm) in length by 12 1/2 inches (32 cm) in width (excluding the handle), and 6 3/4 inches (17.5 cm) in depth. It has a beautiful thick and very well made leather handle held in place by metal hooks riveted to the side of the case. There are two metal locking hinges but there is no key. It weighs 1.9 kg.

Inside the case there is a lovely dark burgundy lining made of some sort of hardened paper with the burgundy plasticised paper lining covering it. There is a charming addition of a compartment on the lid which has a pleat so it can either fold flat or contain papers. The lid is held open with two leather straps on each side.

I am uncertain as to the origin of this case, although its locks are English. Its use is uncertain too. It could have been a doctors case, and the inner flap may have held the medical records of the patient being visited. It could also have been a travelling businessman's case. Whatever it was used for, it has been well loved in its previous life.

It is in a lovely antique condition, with lots of scuffing on its corners and edges, and marks here and there of signs of being handled perhaps a little too roughly. There is a dent on one side where something heavy must have landed on it! However, it is a lovely little case, and would make a lovely addition to some other similar cases, or just sitting on top of a wardrobe, as a decorative item. It could be filled with old books and papers, music scores and more, to add an antique touch to the drawing room, study or snug. It could even hold a small folded blanket tucked inside it ready for those chillier days of winter.

I use La Poste economy shipping for all items weighing less than 2 kg after packaging is added unless otherwise stated in the listing; this service includes tracking. However, as this method does not include insurance, I cannot be held responsible for lost or undeliverable parcels (this includes parcels not collected from a local pick up / collection point when advised to do so by your local postal service). Colissimo insurance is 23 euros/kg of weight so for more expensive items, there is an option to upgrade the insurance, which is usually between 1 and 4 euros. All items will be very carefully protected and packaged with bubble wrap or other appropriate packing material. I always endeavor to use recycled material, so please do not be surprised if your order comes in a wine box! I don't charge for packaging materials and try as much as possible to recycle packaging when I can. This helps the environment and keeps costs down.
