About the Author
Born in Swindon, England October 18, 1902, Archimandrite Lazarus (Moore) moved to Canada when he was 18 and eventually became a Canadian citizen. Then he received a call from God and returned to England. Over the next several years he lived in a monastery, spent time on Mount Athos, then went to Yugoslavia where he was tonsured a Monk in the Russian-Serbian Monastery at Milkovo. He was ordained Deacon and later Priest in the Russian Orthodox Church Outside of Russia, and was sent to serve in the Russian Mission in Palestine. In 1948 the British Mandate ended and the Israeli-Arab War broke out. The Israeli army made the Russian Mission their headquarters for the duration of the war, and then handed it over not to the owner but to the U.S.S.R. The Church lost everything. Father Lazarus was sent to the United States and then to India in 1962. Later he went to Greece and then finally to Australia. In 1983, Father Lazarus returned to the United States and lived in California. In 1989 he moved to Alaska where he finished his earthly life on November 27, 1992.
This epic biography represents a major portion of the life's work of this renowned Orthodox scholar. Archimandrite Lazarus spent over 20 years working on this book and produced the definitive life of Saint Seraphim, containing the most compelling biography of the great Saint and Wonderworker of Sarov yet published in any language. It is as though Saint Seraphim himself confided in him.
