newest Hand painted Texas Churn
Nearly 12 1/2 inches high and nearly 9" in diameter.
No makers mark or date on the pottery, but the painting is signed B MANTEGNA. Maker unknown, but the style and clay look like Texas. I would think maybe Marshall Pottery or PR Storie. A similar piece (handled pitcher) painted by the same artist was stamped V.H. on the side near the foot and another that someone said was signed B MANTEGNA looked like it was Robinson Ransbottom. One piece signed B MANTEGNA was definitely by Marshall as it had the name of one of their senior potters on it. So either this artist worked for multiple companies or B Mantegna was a folk painter and country stoneware was just their canvas of choice. We have two others of Mantegna's pieces that match pretty well; you may want to buy them all.
There's something of a void in the underside of the lid. I don't know if it's a chip or a factory oops that they decided didn't matter because it was on the underside. Apart from that, there are minor marks and scuffs but no real damage. Please see photos for best details.
Careful packing and fully insured shipping are included for this large item.
