An exquisite Herend of Hungary ‘Rothschild Bird' sugar shaker with a screw-top lid having a yellow rose finial.
The traditional pattern of birds, butterflies and insects is handpainted newest with meticulous craftsmanship on beautifully modeled, basketweave porcelain.
The pattern was first created in 1860 for the Rothschild family of Europe. It portrays a tale about the Baroness Rothschild, who lost her pearl necklace in the garden of her Vienna residence. Several days later her gardener saw birds playing with it in a tree.
This particular motif, one of 12 made in the pattern, shows two birds playing with the double strand necklace.
Size: 5" high to top of rose.
Marked on the base with the Herend of Hungary backstamp, and handpainted with the model and pattern #1259/RO.
