The box is one unusual looking item. I dont know what type, medium colored wood; may be it's natural state. Flat ish style, wood top and bottom and centerpiece. The front is two protruding, I assume handles that pull out with two large cutout circle compartments that are fur lined. Once the drawer is pulled out, it can resemble a stylized owl. The item is unmarked. Good condition with age related issues. The top has a knot in the wood with a crack line, probably made that way. Some of the wood near crack line has peeled off and also in the knotted area. As I found it so I dont know if it was made that way. Some thin gouge lines at top and some wear and light scratches, etc... The underside is the same but a vertical printed like gouge mark as well. The seam at top piece of wood on left side is a bit separated. The right side is more still together with the seam. Dirt inside crevice once drawer is out. Glue residue on right side; made that way. Sticker residue on right side. The wood may need an oil treatment. The drawer handle on left has a nick on top side and the side is a bit smoother and not sharp. I believe made that way. Some nicks on right handle. The fur lining seems to be in good condition; a few thin areas that may be made that way. a horizontal light gouge line on left side in drawer near left newest circle compartment. I assume the circles were used for storing. The wood on back of the drawer seems a bit dry and underside as well. Light gouges on underside from age/use. Seems a well made, one of a kind maybe piece. Bizarre, but cool. Sold as you see it and as found. See all pics. May be other age related issues not mentioned but mentioned most significant. Measures 3 3/8" X 12.5" X 11".
