ITEM: A fabulous piece of wearable art with rhinestones as the medium, this brooch has so much personality she practically walks up and taps you on the shoulder! The figural design is that of a Geisha in full dress with kimono, hair sticks and fan in hand. Done in the style of Dorothy Bauer, Von Walhof and others, this one is an unsigned beauty of high style and flair. All the small stones are prong set with closed backs in a dark, gunmetal gray. Her face/head is a large, oval faceted glass in a smoky grey tone. This stone alone is set with an open back, allowing for the light to shine through and disperse throughout the faceted stone. Her hair is made up of jet black stones, glittering away. Her kimono is sapphire blue hues, detailed and defined with grays. Her arm and belt are clear sparklers and the fan is peridot green in color, danglers. The sticks in her hair are the same gunmetal gray as the backs are. I think she probably dates to the early 80s but she could be a bit either side of that. Her pin back is a sturdy built in with roller clasp closure. The top half of the Geisha are fixed while the bottom portion are free hanging, giving her a less static countenance. The fan in hand as well as her skirts, move as you do. I've always been fascinated by this style of rhinestone jewelry. It has a very computer graphics look to it, like those characters in early computer games. The details are clear enough to be readable however. You can clearly make out the subject matter and it's funny how well our brains can fill in the blanks to make the transformation complete. Just a delight! She's a lady, oh oh oh she's a lady!.
