Hiroshige Utagawa newest Idemi Beach Framed Ukiyo-e Print from Famous Views of the Sixty-odd Provinces
Lovely Japanese ukiyo-e print after Utagawa (Ando) Hiroshige featuring Idemi Beach at Sumiyoshi in Settsu Province, Japan. This is No.5 from Hiroshige's series "Famous Views in the Sixty-odd Provinces", originally published in 1853. This example is probably a reprint from the 1930s-40s but could be earlier or later. Matted and framed in wood with glass front. No information on back, backing paper has been removed.
In good vintage condition, with no damage to print. There is some waviness in the newest paper, and a small dent (see last photo, to left of the logo). Dirt, wear and yellowing to the mat. We removed this print from the frame to check it, the print is sandwiched between two pieces of mat board, and it appeared glued together so we did not attempt to take it apart. Replaced the nails since they were rusty. Hanging wire was not replaced. Frame has overall wear. Glass appears fine.
Frame measures about 16" by 12". Viewable area is about 10 1/4" by 7" (believe that is chuban size).
Box will be very large since there is glass in the frame. Due to USPS new rules for large dimension packages, we may ship this by FedEx if cheaper - any shipping overage will be refunded after.
