South African Army Witwatersrand Rifles buttons, World War I (1914-18) Commemorative Cufflinks
These are a beautiful pair of cufflinks made with genuine South African Witwatersrand Rifles buttons from the era of the First World War, over 105 years ago. This pair of cufflinks is made from two black horn South African Witwatersrand Rifles buttons. The ‘Wits' Rifles were formed at the end of the Boer War by the amalgamation of other South African regiments that had served. They were very newest active in fighting in German South West Africa (Namibia) and German East Africa (Tanzania), as well as later providing an overseas expeditionary force that served on the Western Front; being involved in the battle of Delville woods on the Somme. The cufflinks are made with a golden swivel back with an attractive diamond pattern on the swivel, the contrast of the golden back and black buttons make a striking pair of cufflinks. They are made using smaller tunic buttons, perfect in size for cufflinks and are 18 mm in diameter.
They represent a unique part of South African and First World War history. The black horn buttons have been carefully mounted in the golden back to make a unique looking pair of cufflinks, whilst highlighting the beautiful details of these buttons which are over 100 years old.
This is a truly unique gift and a chance to own a small piece of South African history lovingly restored and made into a beautiful pair of cufflinks. They are presented in a luxury wooden cufflink box and cardboard cover to make them the perfect present.
