This arm ring is based on a find from Grimestad in Vestfold, Norway, but arm rings of this type are found across Scandinavia and spread along with the Norse people who owned newest them as they traveled abroad. In addition to being a display of wealth, these arm rings could be cut into pieces to be used as currency based on their weight, which is the origin of the term "hack silver".
Weighing in at about 1.4 ounces (40-42g) of sterling silver, this is a solid piece that can take a beating. It's 7.25 inches (18.3 cm) long and made to be worn with a gap between the ends so that it can be put on without major adjustments.
I hand craft these arm rings using the process of cold forging, during which the material is tapered and bent to shape directly based on extant examples from Viking-Age Scandinavia and surrounding areas.
