"With the progress of knowledge the needs of the human body have not been forgotten. During the last decade much time has been given by scientists to the study of foods and their dietetic value, and it is a subject which rightfully should demand much consideration from all. I certainly feel that the time is not far distant when a knowledge of the principles of diet will be an essential part of one's education. Then mankind will eat to live, will be able to do better mental and physical work, and newest disease will be less frequent." - Preface to The Boston Cooking School Cookbook
When Fannie Merritt Farmer wrote the preface to 'The Boston Cooking School Cookbook' she had no idea how accurate her predictions of the future of nutrition would be. This cookbook has it all – it covers everything from soups and salads to poultry and game to jellies and jams. Though older cookbooks are sometimes known for their recipes that seem quite odd to us now, this book has a lot of great recipes that are as useful today as they were in 1936!
The book is in very good condition overall. There are a few notes from previous owners scattered throughout out, but they are not distracting at all and don't block any of the recipes. The hinges are cracked but the cover is still securely attached and the book is structurally sound. The pages are all in great shape and there is no foxing and no apparent tears. The book contains a thorough index to help you find whatever you're looking for. As a fun little addition, the back contains advertisements for a variety of cooking and baking supplies one might need to make the various recipes inside the book!
