Shipping costs
Please note that shipping costs are not inflated.
It is expensive to ship from here in Guatemala.

Some sellers offer free or reduced shipping simply by inflating the cost of the item being shipped. I do not.

I believe in offering beautiful, worn , vintage pieces at the cheapest rate possible, whilst paying the ladies selling them, a good and fair price.

I strongly believe in fair trade practices and when traveling to many of the isolated villages, my friend Ingrid Aracely Pocon , who is cackchiquel Mayan travels with me, to interact with the ladies selling their garments in their native tongues ensuring a fair price.

Quite often it is possible to ship more than one item for the lowest price from the shipping company. Please ask and I will be happy to help

Hand washable in cold waterPlease check all pictures carefully prior to bidding newest

IMPORTANT INFORMATION ABOUT HUIPILS

The
Mayan people are generally a much smaller race of people, and this can be a problem, especially with head/arm sizes. When weaving on a back strap loom, the width of the finished cloth is usually around 27" wide, the maximum width that the ladies can reach, whilst kneeling down and reaching in front of them. As the Huipil is made up of one or more of these panels, it is usually possible to open up the arm holes, simply by undoing either some or all of the side seams ( resulting in a poncho when completely opened). Likewise, if the item has a centre middle seam, it is usually possible to undo enough to allow our heads to slip through, or open a little more on the shoulder for the same effect. A good tip, if you actually want to wear it, as opposed to using it as art, is to look at the shape of the neck. Sometimes it will be square or scalloped, which generally means larger. Another point worth noting , is that the Huipil is usually worn with the bottom part under the Corte (skirt) with a Faja ( belt) around the middle, so little attention is given to the length and also which is why the bottom of the garment is quite often uneven and/or unfinished. It is in my best interest as a seller, to make sure that all my customers are satisfied , so am happy to measure or try on any of my items and give an honest answer.
