Use a tailor's tape measure available at your local fabric store.
How not to be mistaken?
1. Compare similar clothes.
If you are shopping for outerwear, leave a margin of 1–2 cm, taking into account the fact that there will be a newest sweater or other warm clothing underneath.
2. Spread the garment on a flat surface, zipping everything that can be fastened - buttons, zippers. Make sure there are no folds on the clothes at this point. The measuring tape should fit snugly against the measuring line without sagging or stretching.
When measuring girths, it is recommended to step back 2-3 mm from the start and end points of the measurement in order to leave a margin for the fabric tension.
