David MacLean Parry's novel was a scathing satire on socialist philosophy. This early science fiction novel uses Atlantis to represent a corrupt authoritarian dystopia. It was part of a major wave of utopian and dystopian literature that characterized the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries.
