This rustic and imperfect piece is about 7” tall including the knob by about 5" on the other sides. The lid is “keyed” to make it fit better. It was hand-built of medium coarse buff colored clay and fired in an electric kiln to ^5. It newest is finished in a semi-matte gray green glaze that breaks brown over the texture created by embossing the clay with architectural fragments. One of a kind so what you see is what you get, however, a matching companion piece is also listed.
For the past several years my focus has been on on “face jugs”. (Technically, most of what I make are "face bottles" as few have handles.) These often grotesque bottles were examples of folk art produced by African-American slaves for a variety of purposes/reasons...some may have been self-portraits, perhaps spiritual pieces, used as grave markers (to "scare the devil away from the grave"), and some may have been used to store kerosene or even moonshine to keep children out of them. I offer free priority mail shipping with insurance. All pieces are double boxed and well packed to insure your purchase arrives intact.
