Antique Banko Japanese Teapot 1927 Buddha Riding a Happy Elephant newest Rattan Handle This almost century-old Banko Japanese Teapot measures 8.5 x 6.5 x 5 inches, not including the handle. There is some faint wear to the paint and there is a tiny chip underneath the lid – I circled it in the last photo. There is a gilt gold bugle at the handle base. The colors are still very vivid and the teapot is sure to bring a smile to everyone who sees it. Banko ware was a type of Japanese pottery that originated in the 'Mie' prefecture in Central Japan.
