Waechtersbach (WMF) Art Nouveau Antique Tea Set on Tray, Christian Neureuther, 1910. Restoration Project.
This is an absolutely stunning and stylish set. It is a Restoration Project and I will explain as under. There is two teapots, maybe one for hot water, sugar bowl with lid and creamer jug. There is also a teapot stand and all sit on an oblong tray. There is lots of nickel plated trim which is pitted, newest not too badly. The blue colour of the enamel is gorgeous. Overall the pieces have had little use with just some minor usage marks.
Smaller Teapot - Two chips on the spout.
Larger Teapot - has had some of the spout removed, probably after damage.
Sugar bowl has repair (not very well) to one handle.
The creamer is good.
The teapot stand is good.
The large tray has suffered the most damage and has not been put back together very well.
All this is visible in the photos.
There is however one Waechtersbach stamp of the beehive on the teapot stand.
If restored correctly it would be of good value. Please feel free to make an offer.
I recently sold the matching biscuit box for $355.
Christian Neureuther (1868-1921), Germany, was an important designer for Waechtersbach Stoneware Factory having his designs listed in "Art and Crafts" 1897. He was the inventor of Waechtersbacher Art Nouveau. Along with two others, Hans Christiansen and Joseph Maria Olbrich, he formed the Jugendstil "Youth" movement. He has his own department at the factory called Waechtersbach Ceramics. He was the recipient of many awards.
Taken from Wikepedia: Christian Neureuther's pioneering designs were an essential reason for the rapid development of the Waechtersbacher stoneware factory which was also able to leave its competitor Villeroy & Boch far behind. The enormous increase in the number of decors from 1901 to 1905 that left his studio every day is also remarkable.
